StatoilHydro To Plug And Abandon 30/9-23 Well In PL 104, Norway

Published: 28-Aug-2009

StatoilHydro Petroleum AS (StatoilHydro), operator of production license (PL) 104, has concluded the drilling of wildcat well 30/9-23 located between the Oseberg and Brage fields in the North Sea. The objective of the well was to prove petroleum in the Viking and Brent groups, in upper to Middle Jurassic reservoir rocks. The well is dry. Reservoir rocks were encountered in both the Viking and Brent groups, of medium thickness and with satisfactory to good reservoir quality.

This was the 25th exploration well in PL104. The well was drilled to a vertical depth of 2846 meters below the sea surface, and was terminated in lower Jurassic rocks belonging to the Dunlin group.

The water depth is 114 meters. The well will now be permanently plugged and abandoned.

Well 30/9-23 was drilled by the Transocean Winner drilling facility, which will now proceed to PL 363 in the North Sea to drill wildcat well 25/5-6 operated by Lundin Norway AS.

Licensees in PL 104 are ConocoPhillips Skandinavia AS 2.4%, ExxonMobil Exploration & Production Norway AS 4.7%, Total E&P Norge AS 10%, Petoro AS 33.6% and StatoilHydro 49.3%.
